The validation workshop for the Gender Evaluation Document (GED) of Cameroon took place on December 29, 2025, at the Franco Hotel in Yaoundé, as part of an initiative organized by the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations). This workshop brought together various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and the Family as well as the Ministry of Agriculture and Sustainable Development..
The main objective of the Gender Assessment is to produce an updated profile on gender issues in the agricultural and rural sector. This quadrennial assessment aims to guide necessary reforms and ensure better consideration of the specific needs of rural women, who are often marginalized in this sector. The study particularly focuses on the inequalities between men and women in access to agricultural and natural resources, essential means of production, as well as knowledge, skills, and service opportunities..
The evaluation highlights the structural and systemic barriers faced by rural women, emphasizing the urgent need for strengthened action to reduce these inequalities. It offers concrete recommendations to promote gender equality in the agricultural sector and improve the situation of rural women.
The Dadé Kaolé Association, active in the protection of the rights of indigenous peoples, particularly women and young girls, actively participated in this workshop. Its presence is part of an approach aimed at better understanding the issues and challenges these women face in the agricultural sector. As a civil society actor, the Association is committed to taking ownership of the results of this evaluation to strengthen its advocacy and support actions for vulnerable populations.
This initiative is part of the FAO's commitments to gender equality, as outlined in its 2020-2030 policy, and is a fundamental requirement of its Country Programming Framework (CPF 2022-2026).
The results of this evaluation should play a key role in the process of formulating public policies aimed at reducing gender inequalities and promoting a more inclusive and sustainable agricultural development in Cameroon.
